About

Use your imagination to create fun creatures for the Cambridge Science Festival Carnival!

Design and make animals, aliens, robots, monsters, and more, with paper, felt, foam, pipe cleaners, and other materials, using a colorful (and very cool) mechanical pencil for the body of your creature. Use our backdrops to take pictures of your creations.

Take your animal (and the pencil) home or leave it to live happily ever after in the Pencil Critter Petting Zoo!

Work alongside MIT staff and students to discover different dimensions of the design process, and learn about low-fidelity prototyping — a technique that uses simple materials to test ideas and gather feedback. We can’t wait to see what you make!
